Building foundations for life

Explore your child's potential

Children learn about themselves and the world through play, exploration and everyday experiences.

Children and teenagers with low vision or blindness are no different. They simply learn some skills in different ways.

Our vision specialist Occupational Therapists and Orientation and Mobility Specialists help children and teens develop the practical skills needed to navigate daily life, build independence and participate confidently at home, school and in the community.

We also work closely with families, educators and health professionals to ensure support is tailored to your child’s individual needs and goals.

From early childhood through to young adulthood, our Children and Teen Services support young people to reach their full potential.

Early years support

Early Childhood Intervention

For children aged from birth to six years, early intervention can help build the foundations for lifelong learning, participation and independence.

Our vision specialists work alongside young children and their families to develop essential skills that support inclusion, wellbeing and confidence.

This may include learning to navigate their home, participate in play, complete everyday tasks and engage with family members and peers.

By supporting key developmental milestones, Early Childhood Intervention helps prepare children for preschool, school and future success.

Skills for every stage

Support throughout childhood and adolescence.

As children grow, their goals and support needs evolve. Our services grow with them.

Support may focus on:

  • Safe and Independent Travel: Learning to navigate home, school and community environments, use public transport and develop mobility skills.
  • Social Connections: Building friendships, developing social skills and strengthening participation in family and community life.
  • Recreation and Leisure: Participating in activities such as reading, sport, music, hobbies and community programs.
  • School and Learning: Developing strategies for success at school, supporting teachers to understand vision needs and recommending adjustments that maximise learning opportunities.
  • Preparing for Adulthood: Building confidence with everyday responsibilities such as shopping, managing money, preparing meals, problem-solving and planning for employment or further study.

Support that grows with them

Programs tailored to your child or teen.

Every child is different, which is why our services are tailored to their age, interests, goals and level of vision.

Support can be delivered one-on-one in environments where your child feels most comfortable, including at home, school or in the community.

As children move into their teenage years, they may also benefit from group programs, camps and peer support opportunities that encourage independence, social connection and confidence.

Through our Social and Educational groups, young people can make friends, try new activities and continue building the skills they need for adulthood.
