What is a neurological event?

A person with short light brown hair, wearing a cosy green knitted jumper over a white polo neck, smiles cheerfully in front of a solid pink background.

A neurological event is any condition that affects the brain, spinal cord or nervous system and results in changes to vision or visual processing.

This may include:

  • Stroke
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Optic Nerve Disorders
  • Eye Movement Disorders

Adjusting to vision changes following a neurological event can be challenging. Our specialist team can help you understand your vision, develop practical strategies and build confidence in everyday life.

Specialised support

What services can you access?

Our Neurological Vision Services are designed to help you adapt to changes in vision and maintain independence at home and in the community.

Services may include:

  • Vision Assessment and Support: Receive specialist advice and recommendations tailored to your vision needs and goals.
  • Occupational Therapy: Develop practical skills for everyday living, including cooking, returning to hobbies, caring for family members and managing daily tasks independently.
  • Orientation and Mobility: Learn techniques and strategies to move safely, confidently and independently through your environment.
  • Assistive Technology: Explore technology and adaptive equipment that can support communication, access to information and daily activities.
  • Social and Educational Groups: Connect with peers, access support networks and participate in social and educational opportunities.

With the right support, skills and strategies, many people can continue to live independently and participate in the activities that matter most to them.

Personalised support

What does support look like?

Every neurological event, vision condition and recovery journey is different. That’s why we tailor our services to your individual needs, goals and lifestyle.

Following an assessment, we’ll work with you to develop a personalised support plan focused on the outcomes that matter most to you.

Support may involve one-off consultations, short-term programs or ongoing rehabilitation. Depending on your needs, services can be delivered at home, in hospital, alongside family members, with your broader support team or out in the community.

Whether you’re preparing for a safe discharge from hospital, transitioning between providers or adjusting to long-term vision changes, our team can help you build confidence and independence.

We can also work alongside your existing rehabilitation and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated support throughout your recovery journey.

We are proud to partner with Brain Injury SA (BISA) to support people recovering from neurological events. Our Hospital Discharge Pack provides information about the services and supports available through both organisations.
