Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

Your time and skills can help create life-changing outcomes for people living with low vision, blindness and other specialised support needs.

Every volunteer makes a difference.

How you can help.

We offer a wide range of rewarding volunteer opportunities, including:

  • Raising puppies on their journey to becoming Guide Dogs, Assistance Dogs or Facility Dogs.
  • Home Boarding or Short-Term Boarding dogs in training.
  • Supporting fundraising events and community activities.
  • Delivering Community Talks and helping raise awareness about Guide Dogs.
  • Maintaining our iconic Collection Dogs and Tap-to-Donate terminals across the community.
  • Assisting with donor engagement, administration, mail-outs, phone calls and data entry.

No matter your experience or background, there’s a meaningful way to get involved.

Who can volunteer?

To volunteer with Guide Dogs SA/NT, you’ll need to:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be able to commit to the requirements of your chosen volunteer role (many opportunities are ongoing).
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, a National Police Clearance (arranged through Guide Dogs if your application is successful), with renewal every three years.

If you have specialist skills or experience that could support our work, we’d love to hear from you.

If regular volunteering isn’t the right fit, there are still plenty of ways to support Guide Dogs, including making a donation, becoming a Puppy Pal or hosting a community fundraiser.

Raise a puppy.

Volunteer Puppy Raisers provide a loving home for our puppies from around 8–10 weeks of age, helping them develop the confidence, social skills and behaviours they’ll need for their future careers.

By introducing your puppy to everyday environments, experiences and routines, you’ll play a vital role in preparing them to become a Guide Dog, Assistance Dog or Facility Dog.

You’ll receive comprehensive training, ongoing support and all the guidance you need throughout the journey.

Home Board a dog in training.

Once puppies begin formal training, our volunteer Home Boarders provide them with a caring home on weekday afternoons/overnight and weekends while they spend weekdays during the day training with our instructors.

Guide Dogs covers all food and veterinary expenses during the placement, allowing you to enjoy the companionship of a dog while making a meaningful contribution to their development.

We also offer Short-Term Boarding opportunities for volunteers who are available on an occasional basis, whether that’s for a weekend or several weeks.

For more information and to apply for Home Boarding or Short-Term Boarding, please check our volunteer vacancies to see if we are currently recruiting for this role.
