What is the NDIS?

A woman in a pink shirt hugs a young boy with blond hair, who is leaning against her, holding a piece of paper. They sit together on a teal sofa, sharing a tender moment.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible Australians with permanent and significant disabilities, including people with blindness or low vision.

The NDIS is designed to help you access the supports, services and assistive technology you need to achieve your goals and participate fully in everyday life.

Whether you want to build your independence, travel with confidence, continue your education, maintain employment, connect with your community or develop new skills, the NDIS can provide funding for supports that help you achieve those outcomes.

As part of the NDIS planning process, you’ll be encouraged to think about your goals, current challenges and the supports you need now and in the future.
