About the event

Linguistics, the scientific study of language, can be used to understand the mental and social mechanics of communication. To celebrate ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ on 19 September, this social group will discuss how vision loss significantly shapes language acquisition and usage. From linguistic profiles to the reliance on auditory contexts, low vision and vision loss alters an individual’s conceptual mapping without visual cues.
