The 2026 Australian Census will take place on Tuesday 11 August 2026.

Every five years, the Federal Government runs the Census which counts each person and household in Australia. The information collected helps the government plan important services and infrastructure, including healthcare, education, transport and community support.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is committed to ensuring everyone can take part. If you live with blindness or low vision, there are a range of accessible options available:

  • Complete the Census online using their website designed to work with screen readers, keyboard navigation and assistive technologies, including JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack and Dragon NaturallySpeaking (v13 or later) with Microsoft Edge.
  • Request a Braille (Grade 1 or Grade 2) or large print Census form by calling the Census Contact Centre on 1800 181 227.
  • Ask someone you trust for assistance, such as a family member, friend, support worker, carer or neighbour.
  • Visit a Census Pop-Up Hub for information or help completing your Census form.
  • Access additional accessibility resources, including MP3 audio recordings of the Census questions.
