Your generosity can help someone living with low vision or blindness get the support they need to navigate life with greater confidence and independence — and hear the five words that changed Sue’s life: “Yes, we can help you.”
Your gift can make a difference.

The five words that changed my life.
“After eight eye operations, I was told I was legally blind. I couldn’t see what my future was going to look like, and honestly, I didn’t know where to turn.
I reached out for help, but without NDIS funding in place, I struggled to find the support I needed.
Then my doctor suggested I call Guide Dogs SA/NT.
When I called, they simply said, “Yes, we can help you.”
I can’t tell you what those words meant.
Before I had any funding in place, Guide Dogs SA/NT was already there for me.
They taught me how to use a white cane and, little by little, helped me realise I could still get out into the world and do what I wanted to do.
At first, I was embarrassed to be seen using my cane and would only practise inside my own home. But with support and encouragement, my confidence grew.
One step at a time, I started getting out and about again — and feeling more like myself.”
See how Sue's world opened up.
Sue’s support didn’t stop there. Learning to confidently use her white cane gave Sue greater independence and brought her closer to something she had been working towards: being matched with a Guide Dog.
Watch Sue and Lumi’s story to see how the right support can open up a whole new world.

A life-changing match
Being matched with Guide Dog Lumi changed more than the way Sue gets around. It changed the way she feels.
“With Lumi beside me, I don’t feel trapped anymore. I feel confident. I feel safe.”
Sue trusts Lumi completely, especially after dark. And Lumi brings more than confidence to Sue’s journeys. Every morning, she greets Sue with a wagging tail and a reminder that every day is worth looking forward to.
Today, Sue is out with friends, exploring new places, travelling with her husband and making plans for the future again.
“Guide Dogs SA/NT gave me so much more than a Guide Dog. They gave me the support I needed when nobody else could. They gave me back my confidence. And they opened up a whole new world.”
Your kindness can change what comes next.

For Sue, life-changing support began when she reached out for help and someone was there when she needed them most.
Your generosity can help Guide Dogs SA/NT provide vital support to people living with low vision or blindness, helping them build skills, confidence and independence.
For some, like Sue, that journey may eventually lead to being matched with a life-changing Guide Dog.
