Legal access rights: Arron and Helix
Arron is a Guide Dog user and talented musician who performs at music venues across Australia. Since being matched with his first Guide Dog Helix in 2017, Arron’s career has flourished along with his newfound independence to go where he wants, when he wants.
Accredited assistance animals like Guide Dog Helix are legally allowed into all public places, including public transport, venues and accommodation. These legal access rights ensure people living with disability have the opportunity to be included and achieve their goals.
Here are a few simple tips for businesses that want to support access and inclusion for people living with disability:
Ensure front-of-house and service staff are aware of legal access rights and are welcoming to people with disability and their assistance animals;
Accommodate volunteer Puppy Raisers in the workplace, and encourage staff members to practice good Guide Dog etiquette; and
Implement inclusive policies and procedures that ensure we can all participate fully in our community.
