Congratulations to local businesses that received Guide Dogs Access Awards on International Guide Dog Day.

The Lord Mayor of Adelaide The Right Honourable Martin Haese presented our awards for companies that have gone above and beyond in providing access to our working dogs and trainees.

Congratulations to: Adelaide Central Market, Burnside Village, Westfield, West Lakes, and the Reject Shop at Arndale. Thank you also to Physio Solutions SA at Brighton and IGA Fresh at Mannum who were unable to join us on the day and have been sent their certificates

In introducing the awards, the Chairman of Guide Dogs SA/NT Joe Thorp said acess wasn’t a luxury.

“It’s a fundamental human right. It’s the law,” he said. “Access Awards acknowledge and focus our attention on the human aspect of access and Inclusion and the many little extra things we can all do to make everyone feel at ease and welcomed.

“The warm greetings, an uncluttered walk way to tables and chairs, the bowl of water, table service, friendly conversation and genuine interest in training progress!

“And it’s good business to ensure that all customers and those you deal with are treated with dignity and respect.”

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
