Don’t miss ‘Pick of the Litter’ – now showing!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to train a Guide Dog to the high standards needed to change someone’s life?

A brand new dog-umentary called ‘Pick of the Litter‘ follows Patriot, Potomac, Primrose, Poppet, and Phil – five determined puppies who, from the moment they’re born, begin an incredible journey to become Guide Dogs for people living with vision impairment.

It’s a rigorous two-year process that will take them from the care of selfless foster volunteers to specialised trainers and, if they make the cut, to a lifelong human companion.

At every step of the way, the puppies will be tested, challenged, and evaluated. But not just any dog makes it all the way to graduation, and only the best of the best will make the cut – who has what it takes to be the pick of the litter?

‘Pick of the Litter’ was filmed over two years at Guide Dogs for the Blind in California, USA. From the puppy development and training programs, through to the trainers’ passion for their job, this remarkable journey closely models our own work training Guide Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs and Therapy Dogs here in South Australia.

Those of us who are passionate about enabling independence, participation, inclusion and wellbeing for people living with vision impairment will find much to relate to and celebrate in ‘Pick of the Litter’.

The film premiered in South Australia on Thursday 10 January and was proudly suppawted by a group of our Puppy Raisers and Guide Dog trainers.

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
