About the event

In our Jubilee Year for International Guide Dog Day we celebrated all three of our dog services – Guide Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs and Pets as Therapy Dogs as well as our breeding dogs.

Guide Dogs SA would like to thank our Patron, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le, Governor of South Australia and Mrs Lan Le for their hospitality in opening the ground of Government House; the SA Police Band for leading the parade; the Minister for Disabilities the Hon Leesa Vlahos; and the Lord Mayor of Adelaide, the Right Hon Martin Haese for addressing the guests and presenting awards.

In welcoming guests His Excellency said he was pleased to walk with us again and celebrate the incredible gift of mobility and safety and independence Guide Dogs give to people all over the world.

“This special day resonates throughout the world with others marking the day in their own countries in their own ways. But there is a common thread that brings us together, a celebration of these dogs’ incredible service and loyalty to those living with disability,” he said.

“This year’s celebrations are doubly significant – for it’s your Diamond Jubilee year – marking 60 years of service to South Australia – 60 years of trusted care.”

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
