Celebrating Guide Dogs on special day

Date | Time
Wed 26 April, 2017

About the event

Today we celebrated the wonderful work that Guide Dogs do in the community in providing safety, independence and inclusion to people with vision loss in a vibrant parade through Adelaide.

About 200 clients, staff and volunteers and our wonderful Guide Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs, Pets as Therapy Dogs and broods and stud dogs stopped Adelaide today for the annual International Guide Dog Day parade.

Led by the SA Police Band and our patron, the Governor of South Australia the Hon. Hieu Van Le the colourful parade wound its way from our Morphettt Street headquarters down Franklin Street and King William Street to Government House.

The Governor made presentations to graduating dogs and the Minister for Disabilities the Hon Leesa Vlahos made presentations to retiring dogs. The Lord Mayor of Adelaide The Right Honourable Martin Haese presented our awards for companies that have gone above and beyond in providing access to our working dogs and trainees.

Read our blogs on the awards.

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
