A special pupdate from Iris

July 24, 2020

Hi Guide Dogs suppawters,

I have some very exciting news. (Drumroll please)

I am officially a Facility Dog at WAVE! Wirreanda Adaptive Vocational Education is an alternative pathways program at Wirreanda Secondary School in Morphett Vale. Woof!

Facility Dogs like me are trained to work with people to help them in their day to day tasks and to encourage learning. I’ll be helping students with emotional and social development, physical wellbeing and I’m sure I’ll even help the staff a bit too – woof!

It takes a very special dog to become a Facility Dog. It is a challenging career but a very rewarding one too. I chose this role as I am a social butterfly, a quick learner, nurturing and adaptable.

My resilient nature and my ability to remain calm in very busy situations makes me a PAWfect fit for a school environment. Not to mention I love kids, playing and cuddles!

I am tail-over-paws to be a Facility Dog, I now get to help change the lives of hundreds of students. I have only been there a few weeks but they have already made me feel like part of the family.

A very special thank you to my PAWsome Puppy Sponsors for giving me this opportunity to change lives. If you would like to sponsor puppies just like me head over to the Puppy Sponsorship page.

Thank you Wirreanda Secondary School, WAVE, Guide Dogs and its suppawters for helping me find my PAWfect career.

If you would like to hear more about my story, subscribe to receive the upcoming August edition of Paw Prints, and check out WAVE Facility Dog and Guide Dogs on social media.

Cuddles and belly rubs,

Iris – Facility Dog

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
