Beau’s Pet Hotel officially opened by The Governor of SA

September 14, 2017

Guide Dogs SA was honoured that our Patron His Excellency The Hon Hieu Van Le accompanied by Mrs Lan Le officially opened our social enterprise Beau’s Pet Hotel today.

The Governor placed a number of historical documents and artefacts into a suitcase time capsule to be opened in 60 years time. A commemorative plate and the braille watch worn by Guide Dog Beau’s handler Elsie Mead will also take pride of place in the foyer.

In addressing the 100 guests the Governor paid tribute to Beau, the first officially trained Guide Dog in Australia.

“His service to his handler Elise Mead started a revolution which has endured,” he said. “I know that Guide Dogs SA is proud to name it’s Pet Hotel after this pioneer dog.”

His Excellency said: There can be no greater gift that a person can give to another than that of opportunity. Of ensuring they can live the life they want. Beau’s will help many people contribute to that community aspiration.

“It is fitting that in your 60th Jubilee year his legacy connects your history and your future through Beau’s Pet Hotel.”

The Chairman of Guide Dogs SA/NT Joe Thorp said it was intended for Beau’s to be known for it’s Trusted Care.

“We won’t be standing still,’ he said. We’ll be introducing doggy day care soon and dog training in the New Year. We already have grooming available and you don’t have to have a pet boarding at Beau’s to benefit from our expertise and facilities at our day spa.

“We are particularly pleased Beau’s will create up to 50 new jobs in the Western Region by year three.”

The Chairman thanked everyone who was involved in the planning, building and fit out of the facility and the staff for their passion and support.

Thank you to everyone who has taken a bold idea and turned a bare patch of ground into a brilliant facility.

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
