Clients sing in the New Year
On Wednesday afternoon, our clients and a number of staff gathered to celebrate the beginning of an exciting year ahead.
Hosted by the Music Appreciation Group, the afternoon presented an opportunity for clients to share their passion for music, enjoy delicious food and make new friends.
Twins Rebecca and Bianca, formally known as “Dynamic Energy”, performed songs and choreographed dance to a captivated audience.
“My favourite thing in the world to do is perform,” Bianca says.
Devoted Music Appreciation Group member, Pam also performed a selection of songs, including “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow” by LeAnn Rimes and “I’m Into Something Good” by Herman’s Hermits.
“I’ve always sung from a young age … I was in the school choir,” she explains.
“I like coming to the group and getting to know people I can have fellowship with.”
Client and Music Group Volunteer, Zuzia sung a number of songs from her recent high school music exams, including “Imagine” by John Lennon, “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones and “Warrior” by Demi Lovato.
She says it’s hard to put into words how much the Music Appreciation Group means to her.
“I’ve been running the Music Appreciation Group officially since February last year and it combines my two true passions; helping people and music,” Zuzia explains.
“Everybody gets together to share their experiences and their love for music connects them.”
“There are so many benefits for the clients in the group … many leave the meetings happy or don’t want to leave at all!”
Zuzia says this year she would like to organise fresh performances and see more clients attend the gatherings.
Long-time Music Appreciation Group member, Mio says her love for all music means she enjoys attending the group meets regularly.
“Music is very healing for me,” she explains.
At the conclusion of the celebration, Consumer Liasion Officer, Simon presented Zuzia with a Certificate of Appreciation to thank her for her unwavering enthusiasm and commitment to the Music Appreciation Group.
The group is held at 251 Morphett St, Adelaide on the second Thursday of every month at 1.30pm. Guide Dogs clients and their carers are invited to attend.
