Gold performance from Des and Marie

November 17, 2017
A group of four bowlers hold their gold and silver medals. They are inside a bowling alley with two Guide Dogs.

It’s gold! Congratulations to Des Warner and Marie Ryan for their amazing medal-winning performance for 10 pin bowling at the recent Master Games in Tasmania.

Both are outstanding blind 10 pin bowlers and keen members of the Blind & Vision Impaired Ten Pin Bowling team (BVit). They both scored the top medals in their age group competing against sighted players, with Marie playing 33 games over five days.

Marie and Des left their Guide Dogs Ebony and Sonic with our short-term boarders due to the long drive and ferry trip to Devonport.

The win has brought Marie’s gold medal tally to eight overall.

She says it’s amazing to have won gold again and has a message to others:

“Anything you put your mind to you can do,” she said. “Forget your disability, go for gold every time, you will surprise yourself!”

I need help

I thought that the room was really dark, but actually it wasn’t the room, it was me.

I know that I will be fine because if I need help, I have Guide Dogs to turn to.
