Social and recreation – what’s in for me?

Getting out in the community or continuing any sports or recreational activities after a recent experience of vision loss can feel challenging.

With some smart strategies, tips and supports, you can stay physically active regardless of your level of fitness or vision and continue to enjoy hobbies.

Join  us in our special edition of ‘Empowered Living program’ to explore how to return to favourite recreational activities, hear other peers’ experiences, share your own tips and tricks and discover what’s available for you.

Session 1: Move Your Body – Let’s talk about sports, exercise and staying active

Staying active can still be fun, accessible and achievable. Join our special guest speaker to explore and discover what activities are available. See how you can achieve your fitness goals and learn what adaptations can be done to suit your needs.

Session 2: Can I still enjoy my leisure time?

Engaging in your favourite leisure activity does not have to stop due to any vision changes. By making a few changes, you can remain in control, boost your confidence and stay active.

Join us for a firsthand experience of various leisure activities that you can pursue. Discover what options are available and how you could continue to engage in your favourite leisure activities.

Session 3: The power of Hobbies

Session 4: My Safety Checklist

Learn strategies for staying safe while out and about in the community, including smart devices that can help you in this process and create your own personalised safety checklist

What is the Empowered Living Program?

The Empowered Living Program is a new skill development and education program specially designed for people who have experienced recent vision loss or blindness.

Through a series of group sessions, you can discover useful tricks, techniques and equipment to build your confidence and maintain your independence at home and in the community. The sessions will help you reflect on your journeys and build confidence and self-esteem, provide opportunities to learn and explore your local community and enhance your well-being.

Connect to peers who can relate to your experience and join our group to learn and grow together.
